Are you ready for the innovations and insights of tomorrow? Berggren Future Forum exclusively invites you to participate in the highlight of the year - a seminar where business leaders, lawyers, top technology & IPR professionals and decision makers come together to be inspired and network. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Kulttuurikasarmi in the heart of Helsinki.

Come and hear key influencers in their respective fields such as Leena Mörttinen, Anne Jalkala and Janne Kuusela share their thoughts on the future of innovation, economics and security. The energetic Christina Dahlblom will moderate the day's events.

 

An always interesting part of the program - the panel discussion - will focus on exploring the impact of Data & AI on innovation, intellectual property, and business potential. Guest panelists include Maija Hovila, Hannu Verkasalo, and Inka Mero. Our own AI experts, Arttu Ahava and Michael Nielsen, will also contribute their insights to the discussion

This year, we're also bringing future stars to the stage, who boldly dare to get excited about what's to come.

After the event, we'll transition from a day filled with innovation to an evening of good food and music as we enjoy the afterwork ambiance at Henry's Music Bar with the unique artist Anna Inginmaa. Join us and experience how we combine professional content with relaxed networking.

Leena Mörttinen

Permanent Under-Secretary for International and Financial Markets Affairs

Leena Mörttinen acts under the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance. The Permanent Under-Secretary is in charge of managing and coordinating the preparation of matters within the purview of the Financial Markets Department, the Secretariat for EU Affairs and the International Financial Affairs Unit and matters dealt with by the EU’s Economic and Financial Committee. She holds a Doctoral degree in Economics from the University of Helsinki.

Janne Kuusela

Director General for Defence Policy, Ministry of Defence

Janne Kuusela serves as the Director General for the Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence, where he oversees the assessment of security and defence policy environment. Under his leadership, the department establishes the foundations for defence policy and provides the planning basis for the defence forces. His responsibilities include addressing issues related to national defence capability, conscription and total defence system, international defence cooperation, military crisis management, arms control as well as research and foresight.

Anne Jalkala

Chief Sustainability and Strategy Officer, Vaisala

Anne Jalkala is the Chief Sustainability and Strategy Officer at Vaisala, a global measurement technology company enabling climate action. Previously, she worked at Fortum, where she was Director of Digital Growth Business and Innovation. Earlier in her career, Anne led the School of Business at Lappeenranta University of Technology and was Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management at Lappeenranta University of Technology. She serves on the boards of Tampere University and Fingrid and holds a doctorate in engineering.

Chief Data & AI Strategist, Futurice

Maija Hovila is the Chief Data & AI Strategist at Futurice, bringing extensive international experience in data, analytics, AI, and strategy. Her diverse background includes roles in consulting, large multinational corporations, and startups across both B2C and B2B sectors. Previously, Maija served as the Chief Analytics Officer at KONE, where she led the company's analytics and data strategy, developed data capabilities and organizational structures, managed priority cases, enhanced data repositories, and fostered a data-driven culture.

Hannu Verkasalo

Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Behavix Inc.

Dr. Hannu Verkasalo is the CEO and Founder of Behavix Inc., specializing in behavioral data collection and commercialization using AI. A successful digital entrepreneur, he has founded, built, and sold several companies in the digital space and advised over thirty ventures across the US and Europe. He has expertise in market research, data analytics, audience measurement, and big data. Hannu holds a Ph.D. in Mobile Analytics from Aalto University and three Masters degrees in Engineering, Social Science, and Economics. He has served in C-level positions in publicly listed companies, including Arbitron (now Nielsen). Hannu is a thought leader in market research technologies and AI-centric data industries, frequently speaking at industry conferences.

Inka Mero is a trailblazing figure in the realm of entrepreneurship and deeptech venture capital. As the Founder and Managing Partner of Voima Ventures, she spearheads investments in Nordic and Baltic deep tech startups, driving innovation and global impact. With a career spanning 25 years, Mero's expertise ranges from founding companies to serving on boards of established corporations. Her diverse leadership roles, from CEO to Chief Product Officer, reflect her hands-on approach to growth and execution. Inka Mero's journey is marked by a relentless pursuit of transformative solutions and a steadfast commitment to fostering meaningful change in the business world.

Arttu Ahava

Lawyer, European Trademark and Design Attorney, Berggren Oy

As an experienced lawyer and European Trademark and Design Attorney, Arttu Ahava excels in drafting and negotiating agreements, as well as managing enforcement and litigation matters. Arttu holds the CIPP/E (Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe) and CIPM (Certified Information Privacy Manager), and has a deep understanding of the nuances of data protection laws and practices. He is particularly well-versed in the Data Act and AI Act, and works broadly with companies on a range of technology law topics.

Michael Nielsen

European Patent Attorney, European Patent Litigator, Patent Attorney (UK), Berggren Oy

Michael Nielsen is a European Patent Attorney and European Patent Litigator with a technical background in computational physics. He regularly handles patent applications for computer-implemented inventions, in particular those relating to developments in AI. Michael previously handled preparation and prosecution of patent applications for a UK-based startup that was eventually acquired by Microsoft for USD 250M, and continues to advise inventors and applicants from all kinds of companies on the protection of AI-based inventions.

Christina Dahlblom

Professor of Practice, Board Member, Entrepreneur, Leadership Coach and Advisor

Christina Dahlblom works as Professor of Practice at Hanken School of Economics and as leadership coach and advisor in her own company. She serves on the boards of several companies, both private and publicly traded, and has been an entrepreneur and held leadership positions in expert service companies for nearly two decades. Christina earned her doctoral degree in marketing in 2004.

CEO, Berggren Oy

Mika Toikka, CEO of Berggren since February 2024, brings extensive experience in leading expert organizations, sales and marketing, management consulting, and business development. His career spans key roles at VTT, Outokumpu, Paroc, and Telia. Mika began his career as a management consultant and joined Berggren from Avaus, where he served as Country Managing Director and Group Deputy CEO. He holds a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management and is dedicated to continuous learning and embracing new ideas. Mika approaches leadership as an evolving skill that requires a human touch and an understanding that one is never done with the school of leadership.
