"For years, Berggren has participated in INTA meetings with the emphasis on strengthening our partnerships with pace-setters in their own market. We expand our network with quality in mind, not quantity, Tarja Tchernych, VP (Legal, Trademarks and Design)," says. "Pace-setting agencies stand out by investing strongly in growth and having a high profile of developing their know-how. In many cases, they also engage in product development of their own tools and have a high degree of interaction," adds Kim Simelius, VP (Patents), who participated in the INTA meeting as well.
According to INTA, this year's meeting on 21 to 25 May in Orlando was the largest ever: a total a of 10,115 IP professionals were registered.
The participants from Berggren were IP Lawyers Tarja Tchernych and Paula Sailas, as well as Kim Simelius, European Patent Attorney. Each of them participated as an IP professional as well as worked to improve the quality of Berggren's network of IP partners.
Standing out in terms of high quality requires a partnership of equally high quality
"In face-to-face meetings with IP partners, we make sure that the quality standards, working processes and cost efficiency of our present partners meet Berggren's criteria. A spirit of continuous development has to be seen in communication as well; you get a good picture of this in discussions and annual meetings," Tarja Tchernych says.
"The same criteria apply to new partners. It is only in this way that we can genuinely maintain our internationally recognized high standards and our network with the emphasis on quality," she says.
This year, our interaction with foreign IP agencies was active in the patenting field as well, thanks to Kim Simelius.
"Our series of meetings with partners was carefully planned and carried out, and it also increases our own visibility in the right direction," Tchernych and Simelius state.
"Visibility means doing rather than being."
Golden information on markets from large brand owners
Visibility is also increased by active participation in INTA committees and Table Topic discussions between experts.
Our IP Lawyer Paula Sailas is an active member in the INTA Enforcement Committee, and this year she acted as a moderator in a Table Topic discussion on look-a-like products.
Other events for professionals were primarily of high standard as well.
"Meetings of attorneys hosted by international brand owners provide experts on brands and innovations with important information on the client's business. They also strengthen the cooperation between the attorney and the client," Sailas says.
As a general observation on the INTA meeting, one can say that there is an increasing demand on consultative work relating to IP and know-how in conducting legal proceedings while the client's cost saving are seen in filing statistics.
"Marked changes have taken place in the contents of trademark services. I am pleased to see that even in this respect, Berggren has anticipated the changes and developed its products and services in the right direction," Sailas states.
